ESRF organizes Agribusiness workshop during the Nane Nane Exhibition in Simiyu.

    On 6th August 2019, the Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF) in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) organized workshop on Agribusiness parallel to the ongoing Nanenane exhibition at Nyakabindi grounds.

    The workshop was graced by Hon. Mizengo Peter Kayanza Pinda- the Retired Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania at Nyakabindi Hall.

    It drew a huge multitude of participants from various government Ministries, Agencies, Department who participated in the exhibition, farmers, livestock keepers and fishermen as well as others involved in agricultural chain value. The workshop aimed at revealing opportunities which are embedded in agriculture, fishery, livestock and share experiences which various partners conducted studies.

    In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Tausi Mbaga Kida the Executive Director of ESRF informed the participants that researches have shown that the advancement of technology has increased opportunities in different sectors including agriculture, livestock and fishery, with technology farmers are now not to largely depend on rainfall. She further said that technology has assisted farmers to produce abundantly and quality products in a small piece of land

    On his key note speech, Hon. Anthony Mtaka – the Simiyu Regional Commissioner among other things applauded ESRF for its decision on conducting Agribusiness workshop during the Nanenane Exhibition at Nyakabindi grounds, he said ESRF has been in forefront in assisting development in regions and outcome of its assistance is vividly seen in Simiyu Region.

    In his opening speech, the Guest of Honour among other important things he insisted on turning research into action. Hon. Pinda said it is a high time now to go down farmers, livestock keepers and others on opportunities which are available after conducting research. He challenged ESRF if possible to put aside a week for doing such workshop in order various groups in development to benefit.

    The workshop on Agribusiness was colored by ten presentations from the experts in respective areas of specialization. The presentations, covered wider subject areas including; poultry, entrepreneurship, green house technology, Hydroponic fodder, Hydroponic vegetable, aquaponic and circulative fish farming. Other areas include; fish farming by using ponds and cages, modern beekeeping and Azolla as animal feed and Bio-fertilizer.
